Reliance Industries says it discussed commercial partnerships across conventional and new energy with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Rubio and US Ambassador Sergio Gor toured the Jamnagar refinery on Wednesday. Afterwards, the company published a statement on the talks.

What Reliance and Rubio discussed

According to Reliance, the talks covered the global energy landscape and reliable, affordable supply. They also covered new technology, resilient supply chains and the investment needed to meet demand.

In addition, chairman Mukesh Ambani and executive director Anant Ambani discussed digital infrastructure. In particular, they spoke about “dependable power in supporting data centres”. They also shared ideas for working with US companies in technology, engineering and advanced manufacturing.

Why the visit matters

Before the trip, Rubio called India a crude refining “superpower”. He also urged Indian refiners to process more Venezuelan crude. Notably, the Reliance statement did not mention Venezuela.

Rubio’s visit to Mumbai and Jamnagar ran from 20 to 22 October. Read our earlier report on his push for Venezuelan crude.
