Suzlon Group is investing about Rs 550 crore to build three AI-enabled wind turbine blade factories, co-founder Girish Tanti told PTI. The aim is to speed up delivery of its order book and meet rising demand in India's wind industry.
Two of the factories are planned for Gujarat and Karnataka, and the third for Tamil Nadu. Tanti said the capex will be funded from internal accruals, with Rs 200 crore set aside for the Tamil Nadu plant and the rest for Gujarat and Karnataka. The facilities are expected to be ready by 2027 and will be located closer to wind project sites to improve logistics.
Suzlon already runs five blade factories, in Jaisalmer, Bhuj, Ratlam, Dhule and Anantapur. With the new units it will have 18 factories in total, which the company describes as India's largest smart wind manufacturing base.
Tanti said the plants will use AI-enabled systems to improve productivity, quality and safety, including vision systems that detect defects instantly. The company is also building an integrated digital setup across nacelle production, combining manufacturing execution systems, ERP, IoT and robotics for critical tasks.
The expansion is backed by demand. As of March 2026 Suzlon had an order book of about 6 GW of wind projects. In FY26 it reported revenue of Rs 16,679 crore and net profit of Rs 3,163 crore, up from Rs 10,851 crore and Rs 2,072 crore in FY25.
The three plants are expected to create 3,000 direct and 12,000 indirect jobs, with 80% of employment in rural areas.
What to watch: construction timelines at the three sites, and whether new orders keep pace with the added capacity.
